Poems.

motivated by Xanadu.
and Ozymandius.

The Spider.

Behold the trap.
The gilded web, the labyrinth of love and wealth that inching forward.
Dollar by dollar, Kiss by kiss,
minute by minute and slowly eked the time
now day by day rushing by
Each trophy on its pedestal
Some still, some dead, some inching to the door.

You stop and hold your breath, silent,
lest the other travelers might also sense the prize.
Relax, safe breath ever so slowly
and surprise, you win again.
What will it be?
A trip abroad, a child, a new car, a lover wild
Some still, some weeping, covered in shame, some broken fragments on the floor.

Yet on you move, you cannot stop
Your feet move without motivation.
You sense the swords
You see their eyes at the corner of your eyes
The trip ropes and the loosened tiles.
One last step, The final prize
Is yours.

Some weep some cry it seems forever
some STRUGGLE TO ESCAPE

Down your path the Spider steps to add you to his larder.
In his dreams he knows his steps
are moved by machinations
He holds his breath, silent, sighs and reaches for his prize,
To add it to its station
